pilates & fitness for the borders
pregnancy & postnatal specialist
After having my son in 2011, returning to my former managment career in Policing and the unsociable hours that it entailed, no longer appealed to me, so I undertook a complete career change to develop a career in fitness. Having worked in operational policing, I had always been physically fit; regularly climbing, snowboarding, adventure racing and power kiting.
Whilst expecting my son, I found it really difficult to access the advice I wanted and needed regarding exercising during pregnancy, and as a result, gained a lot of weight (I was still eating like I had when I was active), I suffered pelvic (PGP/SPD) pain and abdominal seperation. My labour was also not ideal, ending in an emergency caesarean. This all became a distant memory after the arrival of my beautiful baby boy, but I then became frustrated again, at the lack of advice around recovery and how slow it seemed. I had no idea how long it would take to get back to my pre pregnancy activities, or even how to start training again. I was also suffering De Quervain's tendonitis ("Mommy's Thumb"), which made me even more miserable. During the research and developent of my own recovery plan, and conversations with the Mums I was meeting and health professionals, developing a new career path within fitness, specialising in Pregnancy and Postnatal fitness, made sense. Not one to do things by halves, I trained with nationally recognised and accredited bodies and as a result am a fitness professional, registered with both the Register of Exercise Professionals and the Guild of Pregnancy and Postnatal Exercise Instructors. As a REPs registered Level 3 professional & Guild member, I am required to undertake continual professional development to keep my knowledge and classes, fresh, up to date and safe. I am also qualified in adult and infant First Aid, have PVG disclosure and have trained with the NHS as a Breastfeeding Peer Supporter, so you know you're in safe hands! This enables me to better understand and meet the needs of my Mums & Mums2B. Whilst I like to be professional, I also don't take myself too seriously; this keeps the classes relaxed, friendly and sociable.
During the past few years I have gained additional qualifications and attended further training to be able to expand the variety of classes on offer.
The work I do is a pleasure and a priviledge. I am currently working privately with over 50 clients, of all ages and have worked with hundreds more over the past few years, many of whom still attend at least once a week! I meet so many interesting, lovely, funny and amazing people. You all work so hard in my classes; it's great that you see such benefits and enjoy them (even if I do nag you about your [posture and pelvic floor!).
